FAQ

How will teams communicate in a virtual trivia bee?

Each team will be assigned to a Zoom breakout room. After each question is asked, the Zoom host will send teams into their breakout rooms. The teams discuss and decide on and answer while in the breakout room. After 1 minute the host will pull teams back into the main room of the Zoom meeting to unveil the correct answers. Watch a video on how Zoom breakout rooms work to learn more.

What if I just want to watch?

The Trivia Bee will be broadcast live via YouTube and on our Facebook, Twitter, and at amhersteducationfoundation.org

How many people can play on a team?

There are no limitations this year to the number of players on a team - we are being flexible. Play as an individual, gather with your household or connect with friends and colleagues through Zoom to form teams. Each of these teams will look a bit different. Register your team at https://ti.to/amherst-education-foundation/aef-trivia-bee-2021

How will teams answer?

In your breakout room, the questions will be visible in the chat function of Zoom, when your team comes to consensus on your answer one team member from your team should record your answer on a piece of paper. If you would like, use this SCORECARD

How will teams keep score?

As always, the AEF Trivia Bee will rely on the honor system, asking teams to track their score. Each question is worth one point for a maximum score of 30 points. If you would like, use this Answer & Self-Score Sheet. Periodically, our host will check in with our competitors and ask them to report out their score.

Is there a kid's round?

There is no designated children's Round this year, however, the questions will begin easy aimed for all members of the family and get increasingly more difficult.

To learn about how breakout rooms work, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbPpdyn16sY

  • The competition will begin with a practice round, followed by three rounds consisting of 10 questions each.

  • All teams will participate in all rounds. There is no kid’s round this year, but we encourage all members of the family to play along as the questions will begin easy and get increasingly more difficult.

  • Our host will introduce the questions two at a time in the chat, and players will be sent to their respective breakout rooms for a team huddle for 1 minute to discuss and agree on answers to those questions.

  • At the end of each breakout session you will be brought back into the main room where the host will unveil the correct answers.

  • Teams receive one point for each correct answer. We will be using the honor-system to keep score. Make sure one member of your team is tallying up your score! For those that wish, you can use this Answer & Self-Score Card to record your answers and score.

  • At the end of each round the host will check in with teams, asking them their score. At the end of the third and final round, the points will be tallied and the team with the most points will be the winning team and 2020 Trivia Bee Champion.

  • If there is a tie, there will be a “sudden-death” elimination round between the tied teams to determine the 2020 Trivia Bee Champion.

We look forward to see you on Thursday, October 28, 6:15PM!
